Writing

The children participate daily in a 45 minute writing block that we call Writer's Workshop.  I begin by teaching a 5min. Focus Lesson of a particular strategy that I want them to use in their writing.  We then break into independent writing for 30min.  They have the opportunity to conference with me, revise their work, and publish some of their writing.  We wrap up our Workshop with a 5min. sharing time where the writer's get to share some of their super stories!

Some of our units throughout the year include:

• small moments (a specific life even)
• a "how-to" persuasive article
• friendly letter writing
• memoir (a personal experience)
• fantasy/fairy tale
• informational research
• write a review (movie, game, restaurant)
